چکیده

Power constitutes an essential controllable resource for the improvement of the radio link performance in WCDMA-based cellular networks. In addition, complementary to traditional services, location based services (LBS) have emerged as a growing area for mobile service providers bringing in the foreground the potential for a locationaware resource management. To this effect, this paper addresses a location and service-aware, downlink transmission power allocation problem (DTPA), the solution of which is suitable for the management or control domain of multiservice, WCDMA-based cellular networks. Given a specific traffic load situation that includes location and required service information, the solution of the DTPA problem aims at finding the optimum feasible allocation of power to the set of downlink connections that should be supported by the system. The problem is concisely defined, mathematically formulated and solved by a computationally efficient algorithm. Simulation and numerical results are presented.

Backhaul-Aware Decoupled Uplink and Downlink User Association, Subcarrier Allocation, and Power Control in FiWi HetNets

Decoupling the uplink and downlink user association improves the throughput of heterogeneous networks (HetNets) and balances the traffic load of macro- and small- base stations. Recently, fiber-wireless HetNets (FiWi-HetNets) have been considered as viable solutions for access networks. To improve the accuracy of user association and resource allocation algorithms in FiWi-HetNets, the capacity ...

Characterizing the Downlink Transmission Power for WCDMA Networks in Multiservice Environments

This paper characterizes the downlink transmission power for WCDMA networks in multiservice environments for both urban and suburban macro cells. To calculate the required transmission power for the user in the cell, various modeling approaches are used to investigate the orthogonality, the path loss, and the inter-cell interference ratio of the user. The variation and scattering pattern of the...

Joint Allocation of Computational and Communication Resources to Improve Energy Efficiency in Cellular Networks

Mobile cloud computing (MCC) is a new technology that has been developed to overcome the restrictions of smart mobile devices (e.g. battery, processing power, storage capacity, etc.) to send a part of the program (with complex computing) to the cloud server (CS). In this paper, we study a multi-cell with multi-input and multi-output (MIMO) system in which the cell-interior users request service...

Comparison of Downlink Power Allocation Mechanisms in Soft Handoff for the WCDMA System with Heterogeneous Cell Structures

Handoff in heterogeneous cellular networks is one of the hot topics for wireless networks beyond the third generation. We observe that a power exhausting issue may occur in a code division multiple access (CDMA) system with mixed-sized cells. During soft handoff in the downlink transmission, a number of base stations transmit signals to a user simultaneously. Usually, a microcell has a more str...

Downlink joint rate and power allocation in cellular multirate WCDMA systems

This paper proposes a novel dynamic joint rate and power control procedure for downlink data transmission in a multicell variable spreading factor wideband code-division multiple-access (WCDMA) system where the different users have similar quality-of-service requirements in terms of the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR). Two variations of the dynamic joint rate and power allocation procedure, ...
